The Volcanic Seven Summits (2/7)
Wake up, time for breakfast, all ready to go! El Citlaltépetl* is waiting! ..is it a joke? 2am! Few more minutes, por favor..!
Complete darkness, tremendous silence and stars above! Pasó a pasó.. nothing more is needed. After 3h we are getting to glacier.. the real fun starts! In the pre-dawn gloom we could finally see the pick. Strong wind plays hard! Being at the edge of my breath, every 20 minutes I’ve to stop.. but won’t give up, pinche viento!!
One more, un poquito más…over and over again, like mantra! 3h more and all stops! Silence! We got to the top! Whole mountain for us! First ones and the only, enjoying THE view and silence. I must be dreaming! .. a donde voy? No se, pero disfruto mi camino!
*Pico de Orizaba, El Citlaltépetl – 5,636 metres (18,491 ft) above sea level, the highest mountain in Mexico and the third highest in North America. The volcano is currently dormant but not extinct.
